'Ireland’s First Balloon Flight'
Oakley Road/Dunville Avenue, Ranelagh, Dublin 6
2023
Dublin City Council
The box commemorates Ireland’s first balloon flight, manned by Richard Crosbie in 1785, an event of local historical significance as the hot air balloon took off from Ranelagh. The box uses a playing card design to incorporate the art style of the time. We believe the playful design will spark curiosity in passers by and fit in with the local community.
Sadhbh is an English and Sociology student who has a great interest in art and design outside of her studies. Róisín is a Genetics student who has previously created a Dublin mural celebrating student activism and who received second prize in the Texaco Children’s Art Competition in 2020. Together we designed and painted the ‘Four Faced Liar’ box last summer which was a great experience.
