'Strawberry Fields Forever’

This box is situated at the entrance to Laraghcon estate at a busy junction in Lucan village. The road that runs perpendicular to Laraghcon continues along by the River Liffey up to Chapelizod, through an area known as Strawberry Beds. Traditionally people grew fields of strawberries and sold their fruits along the side of the road, giving it the name that dates back to the 1700s and is still in use today. In the olden days, this area was a popular honeymoon destination for Dubliners! My design reflects the history of the area, and also feeds into the Beatles song “Strawberry fields forever”. The area opposite the sign is an industrial estate so I wanted to produce a colourful image to brighten the greyness of the surrounding cityscape.
I am a graphic designer originally from Galway but living in Lucan for 24 years. I have worked many years as both a freelance designer and an in-house designer, but in recent years focused on raising my family. I specialise in print design – posters, computer illustrations, as well as photo retouching and PowerPoint illustrations. I am also very passionate about gardening and nature, and a lot of my work features elements of nature.
