St Lawrence's Remembered

This signal box is beside Le Fanu Park. It was the location of St Lawrence’s Church and graveyard, the ruins of which were there until the 1970s when they were covered over to create the park. Many people are buried there but it is particularly remembered as a place where un-baptised infants were buried in secrecy. My design shows the ruins of St Lawrence’s in the centre, being engulfed by the greenery of the park. Daisies symbolise innocence and purity so I’ve filled the greenery with daisies to represent the babies in the graveyard. I think the result is a bright, cheerful image that represents a sad history.
I’m an Irish artist living and working in Ballyfermot.I have a Degree in Fine Art and a hDip in Community Arts Education. I worked as a Community Arts Facilitator for over a decade but since 2017 I am working for myself taking art commissions. I have been very lucky to paint a number of boxes for Dublin Canvas in the past. I absolutely loved it and would be over the moon to paint another one.
