During the lockdown, nature was a lifesaver for so many people. We were out walking in parks and on beaches, delighting in any wildlife we spotted along the way. I wanted to make some of that nature a permanent part of the street with the artwork on this box. The primrose is a symbol of safety and protection, which is what we all need now after the last couple of years! The butterflies represent transformations and new beginnings. The animals and insects peeping out of the foliage represent us tentatively making our way out of lockdown back into normal life.
I’m an Irish artist living and working in Ballyfermot. I was delighted to get the opportunity to paint some boxes in Ballyfermot already and I would be over the moon to paint another one. I have a Degree in Fine Art and a hDip in Community Arts Education. I worked for over a decade as a Community Arts Facilitator but since 2017 I am working for myself, painting portraits of children and pets.
