This is the design that my sister and I have come up with for this year's Dublin Canvas, titled 'On Washerwoman Hill'. We designed it for the specific location of Glasnevin Hill, which was once known as 'Washerwoman Hill'. To pay homage to the local history and to the working woman which the hill was once named after, the main image depicts a young washerwoman at work, looking upward. The side panels each show a heron which also have their heads pointed to the sky. Herons are a common sight at the River Tolka which flows beneath the bridge at Glasnevin Hill. The raised heads of all three figures draw a connection between the washerwoman who uses the river's water for her work and the herons which call the river their home. The illustration style was inspired by the stained glass of Irish artist, Harry Clarke
We are two sisters aged 20 and 18. We have been doing art together since we were very young and would love to do this project as a team. We have lived in Glasnevin all our lives and would like to brighten it up
